Hi I am John WD5IKX from Texas and portable and mobile operation is what I do. I work QRP at times and hope to have a pedestrian mobile setup going soon. I work portable while out camping in my Casita caravan running with solar panels and batteries. It is such a pleasure to go out to a remote spot and turn on the radio and find an "S 1" noise floor. A great camping spot plus the HF radio, some good food and a BEvERage or two...."It don't get much better than this!"

Hi John. I know exactly what you mean about the low noise floor. I was amazed at the lack of noise the first time I took my rig into the countryside. Good luck with getting your pedestrian mobile setup sorted! Be sure to post updates on your progress :) Simon 2E0CRV

John, what HF mobile whip is that on the back of your RV?

Looks like a mini bug catcher...

It is home brew made with a K6MB "Bug Smasher" coil I found a while back. It reaches about 13' 6" above ground and is quite effective. I use it on 40, 20, 17 and 15 meters. (It will do 12 and 10 meters with a shorter whip) It is "Big and Ugly" and just barely gets under the overpasses but I have been amazed at how well this antenna talks. I think it looks pretty cool myself but it does turn heads as I drive by. I was once asked if I talk to aliens with it. (o:

Ha! I get asked the same think about "aliens" too!

Here is my home brew bug catcher that covers 60M through to 10M. Still during it's testing and development stage...
