    Low power awards

Im just throwing into the pot an idea for an award, what about low power?

I appreciate that a few milliwatts on HF can get 1000's of miles under the right conditions, and a few milliwatts on UHF will only get you a few 1000 metres, but im sure something could be worked out, something like power divided by distance will give you a number, and the lower the number the higher you score.

I like the idea of an award that encourages low power operation, after all, when operating portable low power certainly has its merits!

It's worth thinking about. Maybe we can make it as a sub award for each certificate (you will see more about this when the award curators have finished refining them).

I would like to be mindful that the G-QRP club do a great job of encouraging low power operation and we should maybe stick to promoting all /P, QRP or QRO.

Yes Matt I think that our club as stated in it's name is a portable promoting club. QRP or QRO should not matter. That being said there are many other groups that have awards for QRP operations do we really need that also.

For what it's worth, I think ARPOC awards should be "Power Level Independent". To me it doesn't matter if you are set up next to your car in a car park and can run a 100W radio from a big battery, or if you have bicycled out of town a few miles with a SLAB in your panniers and can only run 10W, or if you've walked up a hill with a small lipo in your rucksack and can only run 2W at the top. You are out of the shack and signing /P that's what matters :-)

If you happen to be running 5W at the top of a mountain I'm sure GQRP and SOTA will give you an award as well !

My submission. For what its worth. I think we should leave it to others to worry about QRO/QRP/QRPp.... & I usually run QRP!

I just enjoy the receipt of comments like "Thank you for the 57, ur a fine signal OM, 59+xxdb, lovely audio. I'm running XXXKKW to *** antenna at xx(super high)m.", then listen to them splutter through the next over when you've told them your running a basic set on 'low power' (2.5 - 10w) into a simple wire antenna thrown into the air at a low height. As the Estate Agents say "Location, Location, Location", thats the benefit of /p operation good choices give free db's of gain. Hi Hi.
