    HFpacker amp.

    Hello Guys an Girls.

I was just wondering if anyone here is using an HFpacker amp.

I am considering getting one for my KX3 and would really like to hear if someone have any experience with it.

Mostly I'm wondering about what one would chose to use as an tuner for one of these. One of the simple small manual MFJ maybe? Or an ldg 100w auto atu? Or is the sgc 211 http://www.sgcworld.com/211ProductPage.html worth the price.

And have someone tried high duty cycles digital mode work with one. Like winmore and other arq modes?

    Any insight will be appreciated

    Hi Erlend

At the moment I am using the UK MX-P50 M linear amp for portable work in the mountains..see link (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-MX-P50M...-/171350241075)

I am looking at the HF Packer amp as a winter construction project. It has had good reports and the replacement power transistors are cheap and easily obtainable if you do blow them ;( Good back up and comprehensive set of build instructions.

Can't help you with ATU... I use a 4 band linked dipole on the mountains...no need for atu...saves weight in the rucksack More than enough contacts for what I want (SOTA)

    No digital work

    See my blog http://www.gw4vpx.blogspot.co.uk/

Depends of the power you will use. If not exceed 20W, you could use any of the LDG Z-817 or Elecraft T1. For power between 20W and 50W you could use LDG Z-817H or SGC 211 and for power between 50W and 100W the best choice is LDG Z-100 (not Plus) or LDG Z-11Pro. All of them are great, I tried them all with good results. Good luck!
